To create more products or stay in the niche that you know sells?
Hey All! If this is your first time here, WELCOME! We are blessed and so excited to have you here. Now let’s get right into it.
This question was presented by one of our contributors, Catholic Creations. And by the way, make sure you go follow her at: @catholic.creations. I thought this was a perfect question to write my thoughts down but because we are all learning from each other, comments, questions, thoughts, and ideas are always welcome!
So...regardless of “what” you do, this question is still applicable to you. To do more and service a larger group of people, or to excel at something in particular, become really strong in that area but the only service those you are already reaching. When I think about this, my immediate thought goes to what is your current desire for your organization? This helps guide your decision with this question.
There are two different kinds of strategy- Growth and Nurture
A Growth strategy focuses on gaining followers and widening your net.
A Nurture strategy is all for your current audience and servicing them exactly where they are at.
There are pros and cons to each strategy. For one, growth is amazing because you are reaching wayyy more individuals, however, it can sometimes lead to being less personal. On the other hand, a nurture strategy is EXTREMELY personal and your audience will feel loved and heard, however, it might not reach a ton of people.
So if you haven’t figured it out yet, a growth strategy pairs nicely with the creation of more products, but a nurture strategy is seemingly more fitting for a nurture strategy. The decision you need to make now is what strategy you are going to put your attention and focus on. The frustrating part is that because we are only human, we need to only put our focus on one thing to make sure it is successful. By saying you can do both strategies AT THE SAME TIME, you’ll end up succeeding at neither one. This is because you will get burnt out, overworked, and potentially downright sloppy… as would anyone if they are burning the candle from both ends. Once you make this decision, you have a pathway to move forward with. My suggestion to you is to stick with that strategy as you move forward with it.
By deciding on a strategy, you’ll have a clear mind to move forward and create space for new ideas. In the case of focusing on growth and creating more, these are some things I would ask myself:
Can I handle the load of creating something new?
Can I be consistent with speaking on it?
Am I introducing something that my current audience will still love?
If you said yes to this, then you should GO FOR IT! Go with it boldly and know that if you find it not gaining traction, you can always pivot. That’s the best part!
Give yourself manageable and attainable goals that you can track. Don’t overwhelm yourself with blowing up what you’ve currently done, just build upon it and slowly integrate new content that will attract a larger audience. Make sure to post ALOT because frequency really matters when building an audience.
Now let’s talk about potentially deciding to go with a nurture strategy...
If you are deciding to move forward with a nurture strategy, these are questions I would ask:
Am I ready to become more intentional with my audience?
Am I comfortable with making content that is more personal?
This kind of strategy is equally awesome and if you feel it is for you, then GREAT! By endeavoring down this road you will build something very strong because it will increase LOYALTY. But make sure you are willing to make your posts more personal and more intentional. You might have to be uncomfortable, but it will increase your audience’s trust in who you are. You will solidify what you have already created and become a well-oiled machine.
Regardless of what strategy you choose, remember that nothing is permanent. You can always change your focus.
At the end of the day, if something new works, great! If something fails...also great! Because now you’ve learned more about who your audience is. Please please please share your thoughts because this is such a bigger discussion than what I have shared here.
In the meantime, keep doing what you’re doing and trust that God’s got YOU as you endeavor on this journey.
Love, LHC
