How I Plan Catholic Marketing Content for Catholic Businesses (In 6 Simple Steps)

As a Catholic business owner, filling your content calendar with ideas for emails, blogs, social posts, and podcasts can feel overwhelming. I get it. It's tricky to keep spinning your creative wheels and think of ways to position your life as "unique" or share "all the lessons I've learned" when maybe you're just trying to keep your head above water.

So many content creators make it look easy to glorify the mundane. But for someone like me who's more practical, it's downright challenging to make my life look interesting and exciting. I don't have all these "new lessons" I'm learning each day. It's more like, "Lord, help me focus on this day alone and accomplish what You desire me to accomplish."

If this resonates with you, I want to share the processes I take when planning marketing content for my clients. Hopefully, it helps you feel a little less overwhelmed with the daunting task of content planning as you grow your Catholic business.

My 6-Step Content Planning Process for Catholic Businesses

Step 1: Start with Prayer

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your work and thoughts. If you could see my face and hear my tone of voice, you would understand how this step isn’t a suggestion. It’s the foundation. When you invite God into your content planning, you're opening yourself to inspiration and direction that goes beyond your own limitations.

Step 2: Remember You're the Expert

Something that seems straightforward to you most likely won't be for someone else. It's okay to go into detail. Your expertise is valuable, even if it feels basic to you. That's exactly what your audience needs to hear.

Step 3: Map Out Your Ideas (Don't Write Yet!)

Don't worry about typing up the captions or the blog post yet. Just jot down ideas. Do a brain dump.

Plan this out for a few months. Seriously, write the ideas down and map out content for the next few months. This is where Catholic marketing gets easier…when you can see the big picture and plan around the liturgical calendar, feast days, and seasonal themes that matter to your audience.

Step 4: Batch Your Writing

Then it's time to write. Bring those ideas to life, but remember to invite the Holy Spirit into your work for the promptings and direction He wants you to take.

I would suggest writing the content and the captions all together. Batch the writing phase so your brain is focused only on writing. This is one of the most effective Catholic business marketing strategies I use because it saves time and creates consistency in your voice.

Step 5: Batch Create Your Designs

Once written, start batch creating all of your designs. Stay in Canva or whatever design tool you use until all designs are done. If all the content follows a similar theme, keep it in one design for continuity and ease of finding.

This creates a cohesive look for your Catholic social media presence and makes your brand instantly recognizable.

Step 6: Schedule Everything

Now it's time to pair the designs with the captions, email copy, etc., and get it scheduled.

Having everything ready to go means you can focus on running your business and serving your clients, not scrambling for content ideas at the last minute.

The Bottom Line on Catholic Content Planning

At the end of the day, it's still work to plan, write, and schedule your Catholic business marketing content. However, if you batch and allocate focused time for specific tasks, you'll most likely have greater success getting it out the door in a timely fashion and feel planned and prepared.

This approach to marketing for Catholic businesses honors both your professional goals and your need for work-life balance. It's about working smarter, not harder. Here are some questions I generally get from my clients that I want to share with you!

FAQs About Planning Catholic Business Content

How far in advance should I plan my Catholic business content?

I recommend planning at least 2-3 months in advance. This gives you time to align with the liturgical calendar and prepare for major feast days and seasons that resonate with your Catholic audience.

What if I run out of content ideas for my Catholic business?

Start by looking at the liturgical calendar, saint feast days, and seasonal themes. Also consider the questions your clients or customers ask you repeatedly…those are perfect content topics. Your everyday expertise is more valuable than you think.

How often should I post content for my Catholic business?

Quality over quantity always wins. Start with what's sustainable, because even once a week is better than burning out trying to post daily. Consistency matters more than frequency.

Do I need different marketing strategies as a Catholic business owner?

Yes and no. The fundamentals of good marketing apply to everyone, but Catholic marketing requires understanding your audience's values, faith journey, and the importance of aligning your message with Church teaching. It's about authentic, mission-driven marketing.
